Oxford BioMedica Plc

On the 12th of March 2007 Oxford BioMedica Plc acquired Oxxon Therapeutics, a privately held biotechnology company, in an all-share deal valued at £16 million.

Oxford BioMedica (LSE: OXB) is a biopharmaceutical company specialising in the development of novel therapeutic vaccines and gene-based therapies with a focus on the areas of oncology and neurotherapy. Oxford BioMedica's lead product, TroVax® is a cancer immunotherapy that has potential application in most solid tumour types, and which has been licensed to sanofi-aventis for global development and commercialisation.

Oxxon focused on the development of novel therapeutic vaccines for the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases. The acquisition provides Oxford BioMedica with a complementary cancer immunotherapy product candidate, Hi-8® MEL, which has completed a Phase II trial in melanoma, the only solid tumour that cannot be treated with TroVax. Oxford BioMedica has also gained Oxxon's other therapeutic programmes in infectious diseases, including hepatitis B and HIV. In addition, the acquisition strengthens Oxford BioMedica's intellectual property position in immunotherapy and gene-based medicines.
