Based in Cambridge, UK, Xention Limited is a drug discovery company focussed on ion channels. The company acquired AutoPatch ®, an automated patch clamping technology, from CeNeS. AutoPatch ® is a proprietary screening system that enables rapid screening of small molecules against ion channel targets in a functional and high-throughput fashion. Ion channels represent a highly druggable class of drug targets but, due to inadequate screening technologies, this class of targets has been underexploited. Although ion channel modulators already represent a multi-billion dollar market, most existing products have been discovered serendipitously in the absence of knowledge of their target.
The Company is using its proprietary drug development platform to develop treatments for atrial fibrillation, pain and diabetes. The Company has products in both clinical and pre-clinical testing.
